Illuminate Adelaide – the new major annual winter event that takes over the streets, alleys and buildings of Adelaide from July 16 to August 1, 2021 – is a celebration of innovation, music, art, technology and light.
The event takes place in venues ranging from the alleys of the CBD to the Adelaide Botanical Garden and includes an impressive purpose-built pavilion. South Australia Tourism highlighted ‘Top Ten’ events such as:
1. Van Gogh Alive – The Experience

4. Light cycles
July 15-August 1

Light Cycles will combine light, technology and sensation to reinvent the botanical garden of Adelaide.
5. City lights
July 16-August 1
Explore a free nighttime playground of projections, imagination and light. City Lights takes place over 17 nights, offering trails through North, East and West Adelaide.
This organized evening of music, culture, kinship and country is a collaboration between Illuminate Adelaide, TANANYA National Aboriginal Cultural Institute and Music SA. KINARA will take place on the night of the full moon in July.
7. Avalanches: since I left you, live
Twenty-one years after the launch of Since I Left You, acclaimed worldwide, the Avalanches return to perform their flagship album alongside the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. The award-winning duo Electric Fields will open the evening.
Illuminate Adelaide has the biggest party in store for the end with MAAD taking over venues, galleries and alleys in the northwest corner of the city, with The Avalanches to deliver an unforgettable closing DJ set.
9. Light up Adelaide in Tumby Bay: Big Picture Series x Color Tumby
Discover a walking tour of street art reinvented for the digital age – as well as augmented reality sculptures, a new installation by Vans the Omega and the illumination of street art murals in collaboration with Color Tumby – as Illuminate Adelaide brings her magic to the Eyre Peninsula.
10. Light up Adelaide in Renmark: in depth
