In ten years, that number has grown to 2,000 employees, and the Australian company has won an Apple award for 2021, for helping people connect during another year ravaged by COVID-19.
The numbers are “mind-boggling” for co-founder and CEO Cameron Adams.
“We have created and uploaded millions of custom Zoom backgrounds to Canva,” said Adams.
“We have seen the number of videos created on Canva reach 2 million every day, which is just amazing.”
What started on the web now works natively on iPhone and iPad, and next year a dedicated Canva app is coming to Mac.
“Every second on an iPhone or iPad, we have 23 designs created,” said Adams, whose platform is now in use in 190 countries and in more than 100 different languages.
“That’s why 65 million people now rely on Canva to communicate effectively.
“It’s just a blur of design content.
“Since I spoke to you, something like 7000 designs have been created. “
Having invested heavily in improving its presentation, photo editing and video capabilities, Adams says 2022 will see the company double its education efforts.
65,000 schools and 150,000 nonprofits gained free access to “pro” features as part of Canva’s mission to “empower the world to design”.
“You can’t be a successful Australian tech company if you don’t think about the world, which is very different from places like the United States,” Adams said.
“Internationalization, localization into different languages, has been so crucial to our growth, which is why we make it such a big goal.”
