F5 Enhances Your Security with F5 Distributed Cloud Services and New Web Application and API Protection

F5 announced this week a major expansion of its security and application delivery portfolio with F5 Distributed Cloud Services, a new SaaS platform providing multi-cloud networking and edge computing solutions. F5 is also launching the first new service on the platform, Web Application and API Protection, integrating multiple security features into a unified offering.

Organizations today are at the epicenter of two significant but contrasting trends: the evolution of applications at the center of their customers’ digital lives and the escalation of threats against them.

This presents a challenge as enterprises strive to manage complex application portfolios with legacy elements and newer technologies. F5 research identifies 88% of organizations operating with legacy and modern architectures, and 70% operating across multiple clouds. It’s clear that organizations of all sizes face an increased attack surface and are forced to deploy inconsistent security controls across multiple disparate environments.

F5 expanded its global footprint by rolling out a regional point of presence in Sydney in 2019 and it has since grown and expanded significantly to offer a broad portfolio of solutions. Through distributed cloud platforms BIG-IP, NGINX and now F5, F5 offers a range of integrated machine learning-based solutions that protect legacy and modern applications and APIs in data centers, cloud and premises peripheral devices. The world’s largest organizations, including banks, retailers, service providers and government agencies, rely on F5 to maintain application availability, protect the APIs that power their digital supply chains, combat threats such as malware and bots and fight rampant fraud.

“Apps and the digital experiences they power have become a foundation for human connection and success and a platform for business innovation and market creation,” said François Locoh-Donou, President and CEO of the direction of F5. “At F5, we’ve made it our mission to help organizations protect these applications against the now constant barrage of cyberattacks. The launch of F5 Distributed Cloud Services is significant because it provides customers with an easier way to manage the complex challenge of modern application security.

Along with the F5 Distributed Cloud Services, F5 announced the F5 Distributed Cloud WAAP – or Web Application and API Protection.

F5’s distributed WAAP cloud simplifies security and automates processes, allowing application teams to focus on delivering features that will improve their customers’ experience and propel their business forward. The new SaaS-based service consolidates F5’s web application firewall, bot mitigation, DDoS and API protection capabilities into a single, easy-to-deploy solution that enables SecOps and DevOps teams to enforce a consistent security policy wherever they need to deploy their applications.

The new solution brings together the best of F5 application security technologies, including:

  • Application protection from F5 Advanced WAF, which more effectively protects against the most common application attacks.
  • API security with Volterra’s machine learning-based auto-discovery and anomaly detection, which automates the entire process of finding, securing, and monitoring APIs.
  • Bot defense based on F5 Shape AI technology.
  • Comprehensive distributed denial of service (DDoS) protection.

“Virtual workforce, digital-first selling, service, and customer experience bring security services closer to users,” said Erin Chapple, Microsoft vice president, Azure core product and design. . “The launch of F5 Distributed Cloud WAAP support in Azure gives customers more choice in how they address complex cybersecurity risks for applications running in the cloud.

F5 Distributed Cloud WAAP is available from F5 in Australia and New Zealand, as well as the rest of the world, and will launch on Azure Marketplace by the end of February. Customers can learn more through F5’s real-time simulation tool and on F5.com.
