A 1914 craftsman-style home by the go-to building contractor of chewing gum mogul William Wrigley Jr. has arrived in Pasadena’s Market Bungalow Paradise for $ 1.425 million.
David M. Renton built what the list describes as “one of the greatest homes” in this historic district, which is on the National Register of Historic Places and hosts an annual tour of historic homes.
Located on a quarter-acre corner lot, it features five bedrooms, three bathrooms, and 2,520 square feet of living space spread over two updated levels.
Through the red front door is a combined living and dining area.
French doors extend the dining room to a large wraparound porch. Opposite the room, a tiled fireplace distinguishes the living room. Its double retractable doors conceal a neighboring boudoir which leads to the dining room and the open-plan kitchen.
Just off the hallway closest to the dining room is the staircase leading to three bedrooms on the second level. The other two are downstairs.
A rose garden, a swim spa and an independent garage complete the offer of the property.
Dianne Tu of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties owns the list.
Renton emigrated from Canada to the United States in 1898. In 1902 he settled in Pasadena, where he built artisan houses and other structures.
According to a 2020 item on the Pasadena History Museum website, he built a Turkish bath and several additions to the Wrigley Mansion, now home to the Tournament of Roses. He then helped Wrigley develop Catalina into a resort town as vice president and general manager of Santa Catalina Island Co.
