Product Assistant, Bloomsbury Digital Resources – London

We would like to recruit an enthusiastic individual to join our Product Management team as a Digital Product Assistant, reporting to the Digital Product Manager for Performing Arts and Video. Our team is part of Bloomsbury Digital Resources, which is part of Bloomsbury’s academic and professional division.

You’ll join a dynamic, growing and friendly team reinventing Bloomsbury’s academic publishing for a digital environment. Work on our cutting-edge online products for drama and film studies, Online drama and Screen Studies, In addition to the division’s video content, you will play a central role in the design, development, launch and management of some of our award-winning digital products.

The role

Product management

  • Support the Product Management team by ensuring that digital product content updates and enhancements are completed on an agreed schedule
  • Use Bloomsbury’s platform administration interfaces to create and edit site pages and upload content, with opportunities to participate in the visual design of web pages
  • Liaise with sales, marketing and customer services to communicate new content additions and product enhancements
  • Develop expertise on specific products, becoming the “product champion” who would answer questions from sales, marketing and customers, resolving and escalating issues as needed, and contributing to the strategic development of those products
  • Provide regular reports on website usage and help identify opportunities to improve site content and functionality

Content management

  • Assist the product management team with content updates: manage upcoming release schedules, work with colleagues from related departments (content architecture, editorial and production) to track and progress tasks, oversee processing of video and audio content, video transcription and indexing of content topics by external freelancers, maintaining title lists and other metadata
  • Prepare product metadata to provide to third parties such as MARC record providers and discovery services

Product development

  • Assist the product management team in market research with end users
  • Help identify issues and bugs for new products and post-launch user acceptance testing

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Experience in publishing, web publishing, or digital product development, or related fields
  • Excellent implementation and time management skills
  • A keen eye for detail and a logical approach to problem solving
  • A proactive and dynamic attitude and an enthusiastic team spirit
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn
  • Passion and interest in developing a career in digital product management
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal)
  • Some experience working with content management systems and/or coding (e.g. XML, HTML, CSS) is not essential but advantageous
  • Some experience working with video content is not essential but beneficial

Further information

The role is a permanent full-time position with an annual salary of £24,000.

The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a 2 day in office / 3 day from home (or fully in office if preferred) hybrid work model. The office days allocated for this role are Wednesday and Thursday.

As an assistant, this position is eligible for Bloomsbury’s Rental Deposit Loan Scheme. To help applicants who want to start and establish a career in publishing, Bloomsbury is offering an interest-free rental deposit to help them find accommodation. The rental deposit loan can be up to £3,000 and will be repaid over 2 years.
