SnapADU Featured on CBS 8’s San Diego Edition of Builder of Excellence: Six Homeowners Share Their Experiences Building a Guest House in 30 Minutes

SAN DIEGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–SnapADU will be featured in the San Diego edition of Builder of Excellence. Also known as a grandma, casita, or guest house, secondary suites have grown in popularity significantly over the past few years. Changes in California regulations made it easier to add an ADU. Most residential properties in the state can add an ADU between 400 and 1200 square feet. Owners choose to add guest houses for family members or rent out for additional income.

“I looked at the market and the ways to invest my money. I wanted something more stable,” said Paul Winter, owner of Oceanside. “My wife and I thought, why don’t we build an ADU to get rental income, and one day we can move in?”

ADUs can be built on single-family and multi-family properties. Single-family properties can add an ADU and a Junior ADU, which can be converted from existing space in the primary residence. Multi-family properties, such as a duplex, can add two ADUs.

Sherry Chen is a real estate agent specializing in secondary suites. “We’re seeing huge demand from first-time home buyers who also want a smart investment, and ADUs are a great way to do that,” Chen said.

Joyce Evans is a homeowner in San Marcos who helped her daughter and son-in-law build an ADU on her property. “I was trying to find a design and build company that knew what was required for an ADU.
